
Shatkarmas
"When fat or mucus is excessive, shatkarma; the six cleansing techniques, should be practiced before (Pranayama). Others, in whom the doshas, i.e. phlegm, wind and bile are balanced should not do them.

The shatkarmas cleanse and activate all the vital organs of the body, particularly the digestive, respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems. These processes are known to be both preventive as well as curative. Once your body has been purified, energy is free to flow through your system, unimpeded. Subsequently, one's capacity to digest, taste, feel, work, think, experience etc. is greatly enhanced.population experiences depression. According to Maha Yog Peeth these are:
1. Neti: Nasal irrigation technique, including jala/dugdha/ghrita neti (passing warm saline water/ milk/ purified butter through the nose) and sutra neti (passing a soft thread through the nose).
2. 5. Kapalbhati: Purification and vitalization of the frontal lobes this mind detoxification technique of yoga has 3 components Vatkrama Kapalbhati (similar to bhastrika pranayama) Vyutkrama Kapalbhati (sucking water in through the nose and expelling it through the mouth) and Sheetkrama Kapalbhati (sucking water in through the mouth and expelling it through the nose).
6. Trataka: Exercise for the eyes, it involves steady and continuous gazing at a point of concentration. It is further subdivided into Antar (internal) Trataka, and Bahir (external) Tratak.
